Woo hoo! Congrats to the Celtics for their big win over the Lakers. I'm already looking forward to the parade tomorrow. LA, however, looks like it's going to try to forget as soon as possible.

I'm just beginning the process of sorting through the 1000 photos I took at the fight on Tuesday, but here are a few gems from the later part of the batch. I wasn't much of a boxing fan before, but with assignments like these I could be. I was ringside, baby, ringside!

Land of Opportunity

As much as people complain about how small Boston is, sometimes that's the best thing about it. On Friday I called an acquaintance who does freelance reporting for the Banner to see if the paper was looking for photographers. Five minutes later I was given an assignment to photograph an event in Dudley Square where four of the guys from The Contender would be talking to and working out with local kids. It was much needed experience and great exposure. Best of all (perhaps), is that I got an invite to photograph the match on Tuesday at the Garden! I'm still awaiting details on that, but I credit the tight-knit fabric of the city for the opportunity. In NYC or LA I think I would've been lost in the shuffle or lost the chance to more experienced sports photographers.

Anyway, I'm excited for the match on Tuesday. I haven't watched a boxing match in years. And what better way to be reacquainted to the sport?

Congrats to the Sox

Congrats again to the Red Sox for winning the World Series last night. Naturally we're all happy to see them reign as champions again, but the City seems especially eager to get its party on. Three years ago there was about a week between the end of the series and the official party. This year we get only two days, and it's a weekday at that. Guess the City doesn't want kids to stay at school or let people get to work easily tomorrow. The T is gonna be a nightmare tomorrow.

Now I'm A Believer

I haven't been this excited about sports in Boston since the Celtics and the Lakers were enemies back in the 1980s. The 1990s were dark years. I also missed the first 2 Patriots Superbowl wins when I lived overseas and attributed the 2004 Red Sox win as a fluke. But now, wow!  Sports around here is something to savor. Watching games is fun again, even with the occasional loss.

So, let's go Red Sox! I woke up to the good news and look forward to having the good time roll on.

Dressing Tom Brady

Although I often think that I'm the only person in New England who doesn't see what all the hype is about Tom Brady's looks, this online game is pretty funny. There's plenty of other celebs to choose from if Tom doesn't float your boat either.

Ah, Those Winter Olympics

All this attention being foisted on the rivalry between Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick keeps me thinking about this post, White Snow, Brown Rage, by Reihan Salam.

Ugh, when is the Winter Olympics gonna be over already?!

2005 Baseball Season

This will sound like heresy in Boston, but I'm so glad both the Red Sox and the Yankees lost their respective chances to go further into the playoffs. How many times do we have to see this rivalry played out over and over again before it gets tired? Granted, I'm not a baseball fan, but I do support the home teams. Still, given the years and years of exposure to the Sox and their rival (as well as to the other sports rivalries in this town), I'm not shedding any tears by seeing both of these historic-but-tired teams take a break and let others bask in the limelight.
